Tell the Bees
A multidisciplinary workshop of masks, beats and theatre

This workshop combines several aspects of the performing arts. We start by creating masks that fit our emotions and our imagination. We learn to wear those masks and we embody our imagination by using beats and rhythms and by creating awareness of our presence in the space. We practice the basics of theatre: posture, movement, body in space, games, breathing and voice in many of their expressions.
Our practice is sensorial and originates from ourselves: memories, stories, sounds of stones and steps, images of repopulated land, reminiscence of touching, smell of seaweed.
In keeping with AstaroTheatro’s grassroots dedication to participatory theatre, this workshop integrates with the creative process of the theatre performance “Have The Bees Been Told?” which AstaroTheatro is developing alongside the workshop. Hence it offers the opportunity to the workshop participants to become integral part of the performance with their newly created masks, beats and theatrical contents.
It is highly recommended that participants follow all 5 sessions
Attendance at session 1 and 2 is necessary to be able to join session 3, 4 and 5
Limited number of participants up to 12

Ghoula

To Roberto>>
In the tale, a Ghoula.
If the Ghoula would speak before you drank from her well, she would say: “I exist, my hidden hand extends a flower, giving in-relation.”
To Absala >>
Watermelons heaped there from early summer where little bright lights hang above one of the four corners of the school intersection.
When you left me. Did you?
Shadow of theater. Did we?

The Freedom Theatre stands for Resistance through Art. It has been repeatedly attacked and severely damaged by the brutal occupation of the Israeli army. Its artistic directors and participants have been harassed, incarcerated and tortured in an attempt to suppress every voice of resistance. Still The Freedom Theatre stands strong and continue to spread the words of liberation, participatory arts and human dignity.
The Freedom Theatre in her own words:
“The Freedom Theatre is a theatre and cultural centre in Jenin refugee camp, occupied Palestine. We stage professional theatre productions, hold theatre workshops in the refugee camp, Jenin town and villages, offer training in acting, pedagogy and photography, and publish books, exhibitions and short films.
Since we opened our doors in 2006, we have made theatre and visual art available to every young person in Jenin refugee camp. Our work has made Jenin refugee camp known in Palestine and internationally for innovative, thought-provoking theatre and media productions. We have created a generation of artists and leaders, who one day will be at the forefront of the Palestinian liberation movement.”

Sufrimiento Terrenal

AstaroTheatro is excited to host Sufrimiento Terrenal performed by the traveling Colombian artist Felice Christanco
Sufrimiento Terrenal (spanish for earthly suffering) is a play written and performed by Augusto Lachmann. In it, we will accompany Augusto on a journey through himself in the search for truth and meaning in a world in which they do not seem to matter any more. It is an absurd comedy we all hope you enjoy.

In Its Own Right
To Multiply Voices of Palestinian Artists

To multiply the voices of Palestinian artists who believe in the importance of their practice as cultural resistance. We are echoing the stories of lives under settler colonialism, matched with our own reflections about political theatre as a way to reignite Palestinian cultural flame. Believing this is an act of political love and solidarity with those who need that we exercise our rights and freedom of speech to make echo of their legitimate claim to exist.
In Its Own Right is our theatrical answer to the call to join a global artistic collaboration with The Revolution’s Promise, a collaboration between Artists on the Frontline and The Freedom Theatre in Jenin.
